FAURÉ: CELLO SONATAS, PIANO TRIO AND NOCTURNE
This group of works was written towards the end of Fauré’s life when the composer was suffering from increasing deafness and had difficulty listening to music. He nevertheless completed several works, which include some of his most deeply reflective and beautiful music. D’Indy, a life long friend, complimented him on his second cello sonata, declaring that it combined sheer youthfulness with the mastery of maturity. Kathryn Stott, an internationally acknowledged interpreter of Fauré’s works for piano, is here joined by the Swiss cellist Christian Poltéra and the violinist Priya Mitchell. The artists regularly perform chamber music together and have appeared around the world.
